PortListen

Cloud-based software for passive acoustic monitoring

PortListen is a secure, cloud-based portal for visualizing, analyzing, and sharing results from passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) and underwater sound measurement systems. It enables users to explore detections, measurements, and reports through intuitive web tools.

Designed for collaboration and data integrity, PortListen provides robust access control, strong data governance, and full protection of client information and intellectual property. It simplifies complex acoustic data workflows and helps teams make informed, timely decisions from anywhere in the world.

Features

AmbientView provides access to noise metrics and statistics from fixed or mobile PAM systems. Users can download hourly to monthly trend plots, spectrograms, and statistical summaries. Generate a PDF report of all selected graphs, summarizing trends with a single click.

PAMView allows users to visualize, filter, and listen to marine mammal detections by time, location, or species. Analysts can validate detections, annotate events, and share confirmed results with stakeholders.

MapView provides an intuitive spatial display of acoustic detections and measurements. Users can filter data by time, location, receiver platform, or vessel track to quickly explore patterns and trends.

ShipSound is used to visualize data and measurements related to vessel noise. Decidecade band levels, spectra, spectrograms, navigational tracks, ship metadata, and environmental data are available as:

  • Radiated noise levels conforming to ANSI 12.64 (2009, R2014) measurement standards

  • Monopole source levels for acoustic propagation models

  • Frequency spectrum

  • Spectrograms for the vessel passage and measurement time window

Each vessel measurement is summarized in a two-page report featuring:

  • Spectral source levels and frequency weighted source levels by species

  • Noise performance rankings by ship-class

Integration with OceanObserver Underwater Listening Station (ULS)

ShipSound is used with JASCO’s OceanObserver Underwater Listening Stations (ULS), and other systems that provide vessel noise measurements.

Results may include real-time detections of marine mammals to alert ships, vessel noise emission measurements, and notifications when sound levels exceed regulatory thresholds.

Features

  • Secure, cloud-based access to PAM and acoustic datasets

  • Configurable user permissions and datasharing controls

  • Automated noise analysis and reporting tools

  • Vessel noise benchmarking and quality control

  • Alerts for marine mammal detections and regulatory threshold exceedances

  • Accessible through any modern web browser; no software installation required.
