- Xavier completed a Bachelor of Science in acoustics, signal processing
and vibration at the Université du Maine (Le Mans, France) in 2004, and a Master of Science in oceanography at the Université du Québec à Rimouski (Rimouski, Canada) in 2007. His master’s thesis focused
on the development of various methods for the automatic detection and identification
of the blue and fin whale calls in the St. Lawrence estuary. In 2006, he was contracted
by the institute of ocean science (ISMER, Rimouski, Canada) to analyze the passive
acoustic
data collected in the Beaufort Sea by the ArcticNet research group. During
this contract he developed automatic detection tools for beluga, bowhead, and seal vocalizations. In 2007, he worked for the Department of Fisheries and Ocean (Maurice
Lamontagne Institute, Mont-Joli) to analyze the entropic noise in the St. Lawrence
estuary. Since working at Jasco Research, Xavier works on the development of new
tools for passive acoustic monitoring systems.
