- Jonathan joins JASCO as a Systems
Engineer. He started his education in 1993 in Mexico City, studying Biological
Sciences at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and obtaining a
bachelor degree with honours in Electronics & Communications Engineering from
the Iberoamericana University in 2001. In 2003 Jonathan was a crew member
acoustic team of the Sperm Whale Seismic Study in the Gulf of Mexico. In 2004 he
collaborated with the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust in Scotland as a Passive
Acoustic Monitoring Operator. For this expedition, he developed, in
collaboration with Heriot-Watt University, a hand-made portable passive acoustic
equipment to record harbour porpoise vocalisations. His most recent work is
based on his PhD thesis entitled “The significance of passive acoustic
array-configurations on sperm whale range estimation when using the hyperbolic
algorithm”. Such study was produced as part of his doctoral research project at
Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland in 2003-2009. His experience
includes the development and modelling of algorithms for passive acoustic
localization. He also has the appropriate skills on design, implementation and
deployment of hydrophone-arrays. Jonathan also enjoys the underwater photography
as a NAUI master scuba diver. He is fluent in English and Spanish.
