Production Technician

About the Role

JASCO is seeking a Production Technician in our Dartmouth, Nova Scotia facility. The Production Technician is a key member of our manufacturing team, responsible for the hands-on assembly, testing, and inspection of complex marine monitoring systems. The production technician plays an integral role in building products such as the AMAR G4 acoustic recorder, OceanObserver data acquisition systems, Ocean Sound Meters, OceanEcho systems, ObserverBuoy telemetry platforms, and Compact Ocean Observatories. This role requires precision, technical skill, and attention to detail to assemble, wire, solder, and integrate components into fully functional systems that meet JASCO’s rigorous quality standards.

  • Description of Production Technician Responsibilities:

    Assembly & Production

    • Assemble mechanical and electronic components for underwater acoustic systems per specifications, drawings, and BOMs

    • Perform soldering, wiring, and cable preparation (cutting, stripping, tinning, termination) to IPC standards

    • Install PCBs, connectors, harnesses, and hardware into chassis and housings

    • Mount, align, and secure components within enclosures, ensuring correct fit, specified torque, and proper sealing (adhesives, O-rings, sealants, lubricants)

    • Fit and integrate mechanical and electronic subsystems, including hydrophones, hydrophone extension cables, external battery packs, and data storage into completed assemblies

    • Adapt to changing production priorities while maintaining focus on goals, quality, and deadlines

    • Stay proactive and resourceful, completing tasks efficiently and resolving challenges as they arise

    • Demonstrate ownership and accountability for assigned work and ensure tasks are completed to specification

    Inspection, Testing & Quality

    • Carry out visual inspections, continuity tests, and basic functional checks.

    • Verify electrical connections and overall assembly integrity

    • Detect, document, and report defects, inconsistencies, or non-conformances.

    • Assist in root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for quality issues.

    • Ensure compliance with ESD, IPC, ISO, and internal quality standards

    Troubleshooting & Rework

    • Conduct basic troubleshooting of assemblies and systems

    • Perform rework, repair, and modification of defective or non-conforming units

    • Support troubleshooting activities and assist in documenting failures, corrective actions, and lessons learned to support continuous improvement

    • Assist in developing and improving troubleshooting guides and repair procedures

    Documentation & Traceability

    • Maintain accurate production records, logs, and traceability documentation

    • Complete labeling, serialization, and product identification requirements

    • Follow and update work instructions, checklists, and assembly procedures

    • Ensure proper documentation of test results and inspection data

    Process Improvement & Engineering Support

    • Support prototype builds and engineering change implementations

    • Collaborate and provide feedback on design and assembly procedures to improve efficiency and product quality.

    • Participate in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives

    • Seek opportunities to improve processes and contribute to team goals

    • Assist in developing and refining standard operating procedures (SOPs)

    Equipment & Safety

    • Operate assembly tools and precision instruments safely in accordance with established procedures

    • Inspect tools prior to use to ensure proper condition and safe operation

    • Adhere to company health, safety, and environmental policies in compliance with OH&S and ISO standards

    • Wear all required PPE and follow ESD-safe work practices

    • Maintain clean, organized workstations following 5S practices

    Coordination & Communication

    • Work closely with team members to achieve production targets and deadlines.

    • Report defects, material shortages, and production delays promptly to Production Manager

    • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and customer support teams to promote smooth operations

    • Assist with inventory handling and material flow within the production area

    What we are looking for

    • Completion of post-secondary education in a technical field or equivalent hands-on experience in a related role

    • 1–3 years of experience in electronic or mechanical assembly, manufacturing, or production environments

Mechanical Engineer

About the Role

JASCO is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team at our head office in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. This role supports the design, development, and testing of innovative products used across multiple industries. Our engineering team develops and supports electronic marine monitoring systems, including high-sensitivity recorders engineered to capture sounds ranging from industrial activity to marine mammals in diverse environments.

You’ll contribute to new product development by applying technical expertise, creativity, and disciplined problem-solving to deliver solutions that meet JASCO’s standards for performance and reliability. The ideal candidate brings a strong mechanical engineering foundation, attention to detail, and an interest in building technology that advances our mission.

  • Description Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities:

    • Design mechanical components for oceanographic moorings

    • Design and model oceanographic mooring configurations to meet project requirements

    • Design underwater pressure vessels and related mechanical assemblies

    • Design mechanical components and support equipment for towed bodies

    • Plan and support prototype fabrication, integration, and testing

    • Work with vendors, manufacturers, and clients to support project delivery

    • Develop effort and cost estimates to support project management and business development

    • Maintain the CAD library, QA/QC documentation, and associated records

    • Write and edit technical documentation and reports

    What we are looking for:

    • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering

    • 3+ years of experience designing, verifying, and validating electro-mechanical equipment and systems

    • Experience with SolidWorks and/or other CAD software

    • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills

    Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Project Accountant

About the Role

The Project Accountant is responsible for end to end project financial management with a strong emphasis on accounts receivable.  This role involves preparing and issuing accurate and timely customer invoices, processing and applying payments, maintaining precise financial records, and ensuring timely collection of outstanding amounts. The Project Accountant also supports monthly project accounting activities—including work‑in‑progress (WIP) and deferred revenue—and provides ongoing financial reporting and analysis for project managers and senior leadership.

This position plays a critical role in maintaining healthy cash flow, supporting customer relationships, and contributing to effective financial oversight across the organization.

  • As a Project Accountant, you’ll be responsible to:

    • Generate and distribute customer invoices accurately and on time

    • Process incoming payments

    • Apply payments to customer accounts and reconcile discrepancies

    • Monitor aging reports and follow up on overdue accounts

    • Manage receivable insurance, including required reporting

    • Communicate with customers regarding billing issues and payment arrangements

    • Perform account reconciliations and resolve account variances

    • Prepare AR reports for stakeholders

    • Prepare project financial reports for stakeholders

    • Assist with month-end closing procedures

    • Maintain organized and accurate financial records

    • Support audits and provide documentation as needed

    • Other duties as assigned.

     

    What We’re Looking For

    • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration

    • 5-7 years of accounts receivable and accounting experience

    • Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial controls

    • Experience in understanding payment terms, tax laws, and general accounts receivable processes

    • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar systems)

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word), with minimum intermediate Excel skills

    • Detail oriented with accuracy and strong organizational and time management abilities

    • Strong Analytical and problem-solving skills

    • Excellent communication skills in English (oral, writing, reading, and comprehension)
