Julie joined JASCO in 2006 as a senior
marine biologist and bioacoustician. She recently completed her Ph.D. at Scripps
Institution of Oceanography. Her dissertation was entitled, “Inter-species variation
in delphinid whistles: occurrence, causes, and implications”. Julie also holds a
B.Sc. in Marine Biology from the University of Guelph. She has been recognized for
her research developing a new technique to survey marine mammal populations using
the unique vocalizations of different species. Julie has extensive knowledge on
the distribution, abundance and behavior of marine mammals in the Atlantic and Pacific
oceans. She has reviewed Navy Environmental Assessment documents, and has extensive
field experience using passive acoustic monitoring to detect, localize and classify
marine mammals. While working at JASCO Research, Julie has been responsible for Literature reviews and reports on effects of noise on marine mammals. This included
environmental effects analysis of noise on marine mammals.
