- Briand graduated from Acadia
University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Computer Science (Honors). At graduation,
he was named a University Scholar and also awarded the Cox Gold Medal and Cup.
He spent the next 8 years working at The Maritime Life Assurance Company,
gaining experience in the software development life cycle and best practices in
coding, analysis and design. During this time, Briand studied at Dalhousie and
TUNS, specializing in visual processing and computer graphics. He worked at SHL
Systemhouse for the next 2 years as a Consultant, often acting as an expert
troubleshooter assigned to clients with difficult software development problems.
His primary clients were Michelin, Clover Foods and Nova Scotia Power Inc.Briand
next spent 10 years as an independent software consultant, working with a
variety of clients such as Aliant / XWave, CGI and DRDC Atlantic. He gained
experience in a variety of technologies, such as multi-tier RPC/RMI, website
development, JavaScript and the High Level Architecture for simulation. During
this time, Briand also single-handedly developed and operated a custom website
that was receiving up to 1 million hits per month. Briand joined JASCO in May
2009 and has since been immersed in working with the Systems Test Bed
architecture.
