Dr. Christine Erbe is a senior biological
acoustician who joined JASCO Research in 2007 as senior scientist and senior technical
editor. Christine has published many refereed articles in the
field of underwater
sound perception by marine mammals and also on the assessment of impacts produced
by underwater industrial noise. She has dealt specifically with underwater noise
programs for assessing noise from icebreakers, whale watching vessels and cruise ships. Christine has developed specialized computer models to assess zones around
noise sources in which masking effects are significant. She has carried
out research
and published papers on masked hearing thresholds of beluga whales in the presence
of ship noise. Her recent work has involved developing efficient methods for applying
sound propagation models over large areas.
