Acoustics: Modeling and Simulation

JASCO provides acoustic noise level predictions for environmental impact assessments. We employ sophisticated acoustic modelling techniques, including parabolic equation, ray-theory and normal modes, for predicting both narrowband and broadband sound levels in arbitrary underwater environments. By combining accurate source signature models (e.g., for airguns, explosives and sonars) with detailed environmental information, JASCO can provide both N-by-2-D and 3-D forecasts of environmental noise. JASCO’s noise forecasts may be used for accurately estimating underwater safety-ranges for various aquatic animals (e.g., for marine mammal Temporary Threshold Shift - TTS shift), as well as for ensuring regulatory compliance.

Source & Propagation Modeling

JASCO Research has been modeling sound sources and sound propagation for many years on projects ranging from military blasting exercises through high frequency sonar systems to the passage of low flying supersonic aircraft. Our modeling capabilities include all aspects of sound propagation, with everything from ground vibration, air turbulence and water propagation being taken into account.

With clients ranging from small consulting firms through academic institutions and both the Canadian and US Navies, our experience in this field is broad-ranging in scope and capabilities.
